Setting up Netlify Functions (Node.js)

Netlify Functions are just AWS Lambda‑compatible files placed under netlify/functions. The runtime is Node 14+ by default. A common mistake is forgetting to export a handler named handler; without it the function never runs. Watch the console logs – Netlify shows them in the deploy preview, which is how you’ll debug.

In a real project you’ll keep dependencies small (e.g., npm install @sendgrid/mail) because each extra kilobyte adds cold‑start latency. The package.json lives at the repo root, not inside the function folder.
